I think I may have found the problem.....after I put the top half of the pump back on the manual shut lever moves fine, try to start it then the lever won't close....it hits something, but what I don't know.

Well me and a buddy spent all day, took fss apart and put it in gutted, nothing seems to be wrong with it, gets good spray at injector lines. We are stumped. Any ve gurus in SoCal that want to check this thing out? I threw in the towel, everything checks out and should work

Have you tried cranking it with the throttle held open? That will rule out the throttle shaft being indexed wrong. Ther splines are so fine and my eyes are so old about half the tome I get it on wrong. Rocky

Just out of curiousity, when you put the spring in and the top on was the arm on the throttle shaft pointing towards the head? Or the fender? It should be toward the head. Sometimes they get swapped around and nobody notices, and they have starting/ running issues.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Yes it's pointing towards the head, I don't think it will go in the other way.

Oh yes it will. Somebody posted that when they stepped on the throttle the idle went down, they had it in backwards.

Just figured I'd ask, trying to cover all the bases. ;)

Hmm seems like it would hit the side of the pump....but I guess u could squeeze it in the way. I'm going to try to take it somewhere tomorrow that specializes in ve pumps.....hopefully they don't send me to the poor house

Bent fulcrum lever was the culprit. Looked like a factory bend it in to me, but the guy picked up on it quick. Uniteddiesel.com is a shop here in CA that came highly recommended for working on the ve pump. Talked to the owner about prices of having a pump rebuilt and they seemed pretty fair for the quality of work. If anyone needs some work done you can ship your pump and they will take care of it, just tell them the guy with the 5.9 Model A sent you, ask for Justin he'll take care of you!
