fuel overfilling and not filling tank?

hey i have a 92 w250 le but when i go to fill up it will let me put in only 20-30 bucks at a time is this just me? i dont know what to do because my gas gauge is on the frits too. please get back to me!!!

Does it foam really bad or what? Mine will straight up gulp down the fuel. I've filled up at semi pumps before on the first notch on the nozzle.

yeah it foams up then gulps down. it doesnt seem like im filling it though. unless its really efficient. i had vw jetta with a vr6 and it seems worse on fuel . or is it just me!

How many miles (or I guess kilometers) do you go between fill-ups? And how many gallons or liters are you putting in each time?

Vent line on tank could be plugged.

Had the same problem with mine, check make sure you have no kinks in your fill tube, if not take it off at the rubber boot. when you look in there there is a little green ball that keeps the fuel from sloshing back up, take that out and fill as fast as you want.

From what I've heard, if your vent is plugged or the cap isn't working right the fuel system will suck the plastic tank in and it'll stick that way, reducing it's capacity. I haven't actually seen it happen, but I've heard it.

And yeah, my truck doesn't really enjoy being filled at our truck pumps either. I had my stuff all apart and actually pulled that green ball out of it, but it's there to keep the diesel in your tank in case the truck rolls over. I assume it's to keep it from becoming a giant lake of fire if things go really wrong, but to be honest it's not worth me losing a whole tank of fuel in a wreck just to fill up a little faster.

i've heard my cap venting air before, couldn't figure out why, finally pulled the cap off and you can suck air through the cap, but it won't let air escape out of the tank, so i figure i'm actually pressurizing my tank(very slightly, 1-2seconds of air escape when the cap is opened) hopefully its helpin the diaphragm pump keep up a little better
