Smoking ALOT and down on power

Postby winkgnz » Fri Aug 31, 2012 6:30 am

My 92 W250 is smoking like crazy (heavy black smoke) and way down on power. Is this a sign that the turbo is going south or signs of something else? The truck has a few mods that had been done by the previous owner when he had the engine rebuilt due to an employee of his running it out of coolant. He had the injectors swapped for Lucas POD's and he installed a 16cm2 housing. Injection pump has been gone through to stock specs about a year and half ago with a stock pin rotated 180. I have installed an ASE fresh air intake, a TPS kit from DNR customs. Other than that the truck is stock.

Do you have a boost gauge? Check for boost leaks.

It could a sign of a bad turbo. It could also be a blown IC boot, blown IC. Its time to do some pressure testing to find the problem.

Inspect the turbo. Make sure it spins free and does'nt scrape the housings. If it checks good, time to pressurize the plumbing. Be careful driving it with it smoking like that, it going to be running hot
