Help please. loud knocking w/ white smoke?

Postby tatkins85 » Thu Aug 09, 2012 9:09 pm

Drove my truck today and pulled up to a red light and thought i noticed some white smoke going passed my window, so i pulled over hopped out and looked under the truck and notice a little smoke coming out of that oil drain tube thing that just hangs under the engine?
I didnt think anything about it because the truck seemed to drive fine.
Got to the top of a bumpy/rocky hill and put the truck in park and noticed the engine was making a loud knocking noise and the exhaust had a ton of white smoke coming from it.
So i turned the truck off, and tried to restart it and it seemed to run fine, then about 1 mile down the road it started acting up again.
Kinda comes and goes but runs like crap more often then its not.
Anyone got any ideas?

about 8 k miles ago i replaced injectors with 5x16's, new electric lift pump, new turbo, also messed with the injection pump a bit.

tried unplugging the advance timing sensor thing under the ip and that seemed to help out a tiny bit but not much.

Have you checked your water level? Might be the head gasket

My guess is head gasket popped or you have a crap injector starting to hang.

I'm kinda thinking it's an injector. What does the exhaust smell like when it starts to white smoke? Check and smell your oil too.

If the exhaust is a very rich raw fuel smell heres a couple things to check:
If its a non intercooled truck, make sure there is a good connection at the KSB. The connector could be loose, advancing the timing too far. If its intercooled (91.5-93) unhook the wire at the KSB for a while and see if it still does it. Too much timing can do this.
If its not a timing issue, probably a sticky injector. If you can catch it acting up, crack each injector line one at a time and listen for a change in the sound. If there is no change when you crack one, that injector/cylinder is the problem.

How long ago was your last fuel filter change? Have you drained the water drain on the bottom recently?

Have you checked your oil? Is it milky or lighter than it should be? Same with the coolant fluid.
