KDP already done?

Postby stevediesel » Sun Sep 23, 2012 7:57 pm

Started to work on the KDP fix and notice the timing cover has a repair that looks like JB weld on it. I'm thinking the KDP has already fallen out and damaged the cover. Previous owner had no knowledge of any KDP repair but he owned the truck for about 2 years. Not sure if I should go ahead with the KDP check or assume it's gone. I know if I get things taken apart that far I'll want to get another timing housing, just have a lot of other things to get done. Should I stop worrying about the pin?

It could have been a timing case fastener that fell out. That is what caused the problem on mine. The kdp was still in there. It got taken care of. The cam will have to come out for you to change out the case for a new one though. Ive seen the jb weld fixes before. The guy says he didn't know what came through the case, only that he had to fix it. Well I'm sorry I'd have to be positive of what it was and make sure that it didn't happen again. Make sure to clean and locktight all the bolts when you put the new case on as well.

Timing case I might be a little worried about....if its just the cover as long as it does leak I wouldn't be to concerned about it depending on how big the jb weld fix is. I'd at least take to cover off check what's going on inside....only way to know if kdp is fixed is to see for yourself.
