Coolant Sensor Part Number

Postby Diesel » Sat Dec 01, 2012 12:09 pm

I think I need a new temp sensor but there are tons listed for my truck. I need the one that gives its signal to the transmission to shift into OD. I think its the one thats threaded into the block by the fuel filter. Any idea on which one of the many sensors listed on rockauto are this one?

Before you replace the sensor, grab a wrench and turn it back and forth. Could just be a bad ground through the head. Been there, done that.

Oh cool idea. This sensor doesn't send to the gauge, correct? Because my gauge works well.

The one in the head at the drivers side rear, is for your dash gauge.

As for the tranny, I know the 47RH has the temp sender for the tranny is in the tranny cooler "out" line from the t/c to the heat exchanger under the turbo. Not sure how the 1st gens had it set up. Never had a 1st gen auto.

So I am getting a slightly delayed warmup shift into overdrive. Sometimes I'll have to drive in 3rd for a bit down the highway until 4th kicks in. Not too long but its not normal. Had me thinking it was the temp sensor because it only happens when cold. So the sensor in the transmission line is what tells the computer to go into OD?

Yep!

Doesn't "tell" it to go into O/D. Just lets it do that when the oil is warm enough.
