Racing a 80's cutlass supreme with a 350

Postby cummins32 » Fri Dec 14, 2012 11:28 pm

There's a kid I know that has a cutlass, that has a 350 in it, with headers, cherry bombs, holley 4bbl, and an intake. He thinks it's the hottest thing around. I'd really like to shut him up. He'd Sh** his pants if he got beat by a truck. My mods are in my sig. What are my chances of beating him ? Also, a 4wd boost launch at what psi ?

Boost until the tires don't hold. But i don't think a boosted launch is needed for a gutless.

Take it to a dragstrip, otherwise if you lose your driver's licence over it, we don't want to hear about it.

What turbo do you have? What sized tires? What are your current egts?
What year is his cuttless? What cam and intake manifold does he run? What stall does he run?
There are alot of variables that will make a difference. a well tuned small block can sound as tame as can be, and in a light platform can suprise alot of people. My uncle owns a 70' chevy 3/4 ton 2wd with a small block. He's the original owner, has all the paperwork. Truck has a 2 barrel fueler on it with a stock engine (probably rebuilt by now). That truck is quiet and fast! Not to mention heavy.

chances are low of beating it. especially if it is tuned at all, and the driver is ok. a car that ways 2000lbs+ less, with as much or more horsepower doesn't sound good

Unless that dude has a good size bump stick in it or a stall converter/gears combo I'd think your truck would hang with it at least. if your truck stays with it then it'll show him he's not "fast"

I've got a stock turbo that builds 31lbs, my egts are around 1450 pinned, I've got 285/75/16 bg goodrich all terrains on it. His car has a stock cam and stock trans, and is by no means tuned he thinks tuning it is just turning random screws on the carb that he chooses. He knows nothing about engines at all.

It's safe to say that you could benefit from a lift pump. With a low pressure piston pump, mine pulls hard until I run out of gear somewhere above 85. I don't have O/D.

My key to victory is get the left lane

90? Wound out in o/d?
I think you'll take him in the begining. But you need to figure out your top end fueling.

Ya, it doesn't pull much past 90. It might pull a little more since the injectors but I need a fuel system, I think I'm running out of fuel

A chevy 350 was never offered in the supreme. A 350 Oldsmobile was available in the 442 and hurst/olds. 305s and 307s were put in em though. So if it has a chevy 350 it is not the factory motor and could be pretty hot. Could be being the deciding factor.

Just try it, his junk could go 15's or he could have a half way decent hustle going. Who knows.

Here's what I grudge/street race, I only claim cam and intake. Stock bottom end, stock iron heads.
