1991.5 W250 mismatched with pre 1991.5 parts.

Postby dirty-dozen » Mon Feb 11, 2013 8:17 pm

I have a 100% bone stock 1991.5 intercooled W250. I bought the truck from the original owner and nothing has been altered on the truck other than regular maintence parts(brakes, alt, water pump.....) I know some trucks were mismatched with pre 1991.5 parts. While tabbing my KDP I realized that I did not have a crank position sensor. The wierd thing is that I have the wiring harness that is for the CPS tucked up under the steering column. I figured I could tap the wire to hook up a tachometer but without a CPS I suppose that these wires do nothing. Has anyone else experienced this? Are there other parts that might be mismatched?

mine is the same way. i guess they used the pre intercooled under hood harness and used the 92 93 style cab harness.

91.5 did not come with a CPS. It came with a voltage regulator mounted on the firewall. 92 started the CPS and no voltage regulator on the firewall. I have had both models. If you have a 91.5 with a CPS and NO tach it means somebody stole the tach from your truck. Dodge engineering and assembly used the remaining parts inventories of the previous year until exhausted. If you have an "end of the model year 91 run" then you could have an in the cab 92 harness with the 91 under the hood harness but something tells me that there was something different between the two years of 91 & 92. IIRC 92 & 93 used identical harnesses in both locations. I'm sure Mark Nixon can verify what the year ranges are that interchange without any modifications. I know the steering column harness was changed at least once if not twice during the run from 89 - 93.
