what pump do you have, stock?

The stock pumps run about 3-5... so 4-6 is pretty decent.

Well it looks like that ain't my problem. It was running rough when I parked it but now it won't even hit a lick. I guess i just need to send the pump off to a professional.

Are you sure you don't have an air leak letting fuel drain back?

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

I am not certain. Are you saying a leak on the return side? I think if it had a leak it would still bleed the air out.

If you gave an air leak you will have to bleed injectors to get it started again.

I had 4 of my injectors cracked and none were spitting fuel with my fuel stop solenoid plunger and spring removed and 3-5 psi lift pump pressure after the filter right before it enters the injection pump. They were dribbling a little bit but nowhere near the volume that is required.

So, what are you saying?
Does it run?

No it is not running nor will it even try to "hit" like it is trying.

No it has no pressure at the injectors but it has pressure from the lift pump so it is getting supply to the case pump (rotor/vane) assembly. There is a disconnect in there somewhere.

So I have been thinking about my problem for the past couple of weeks in a state of depression about having to take my pump to a professional, hat in hand ,admitting defeat that I couldn't fix it with common tools. Two weeks ago on Friday after work I was thinking about the fuel level in the tank corresponding with the holes on my sending unit that I drilled to act as my return. I had test the fuel pressure earlier in the week and I was getting 3-5 psi after the filter which was in specs.

So with that thought in my head I grabbed (2) 5 gallon gas cans and drove to the store. I filled them both up with diesel with my plan being to fill the fuel tank to the brim to elimante any air being sucked into the system.

When I got home, I dumped both jugs in the truck and it didn't overflow it. So I took one jug and ran back up to the store and filled it up. It didn't take much of the second jug to overfill it. I put 13 gallons in and my fuel tank holds 18 so that means I had 5 gallons in it.

I then took and started the truck. It still had a miss but it was running much better and had a fuel haze. I found the dead miss to be on the #2 cylinder and I swapped the injector with #3 and the miss follows the injector.

I also purchased a new pickup tube to eliminate any air getting into the return side. I think the main problem comes from the bottom of the tank supply outlet. I had checked the fuel flow by removing the hose and I had good flow. I think that when the lift pump pulled a vacuum on it that it was causing a whirlpool effect on the fuel causing me to get air and fuel into the pump. If the truck continues to act up I am going to purchase a bulkhead to add to the top and use the original pickup tube for my supply. With 5 gallons in the tank, the fuel level was only 3 inches from the bottom.

I hope this was the problem all along but the fact that my timer piston in my injection pump was locked up still makes me happy that I addressed the pump. I will update as soon as I get some more news.

i rebuilt mine this was my first time doing a huge project being that i am a young man with some expirance in my brief 20 years but the ve pump was big for me had to pull of radiator fan fan shroud belt timeing cover cause it was leaking then pulled off the gear 22mm if i recall guys correct me if i am wrong i would study some photos of the rebuild get small baggies and a sharpie some lubricant for the parts just in case of dirt dust sand ext. keep a computer by you with the rebuild and get video of its rebuild so you can see what you miss placed or forgot take photos of the pump before you build it look online for the rebuild kit some people have some of the metal parts depending how badly worn they are it was my first time doing a project like that people said i would screw up or brake it but now my truck sounds better then guys who have done this for a living one more thing i suggest getting a 3200 rpm spring btw the rollers in side love to fall out and so dose the piston washer walked off on me a few times but best of luck to you o and check your pressure from the ports and your lift pump to
