Strange head issue, heat cracks???

Postby nyford » Fri Jun 14, 2013 12:32 pm

Anyone seen anything like this? Was prepping the head to put back on but now I am not sure? Looks like heat stress cracks.

Is it junk? I am not thinking it will seal the way it is. It is actually proud from the deck surface.

My first thought is the head-gasket had failed between the two cylinders and the damage we see is a result of the combustion gases jetting back and forth.

BC, that's what happened.
Matt, I thought you had the head redone? Was it magnafluxed? That needs to be resurfaced, it should take it right out. It doesn't look like it went too deep.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

I'd agree with both above.

Probably the best bet is to take it to the machinest and see what they say on if they can take it out

Same problem in the block as well. Motor is out of the truck now and getting disassembled to go to the shop.

It's a bummer either way.

Pete, I have a replacement head. 7 mm injector holes, so looking for new injectors as well since my old ones were 9 mm. Something about the same size as 89 ones.

Rccummins was thinking some 5x012's would be about the same as the original ones.
