happily detuning

Postby ellis93 » Tue Oct 08, 2013 6:18 am

So I'm tired of the go fast in a truck that works, and have decided to "tune" it for work and leave the fast crap for the "I ain't heard it run in 8 weeks" 82 Chevy.
I ain't talking stock turd tuning....but respectable tow rig. I've admitted that it tows like a boss now....and it does but the heat, boost and side effects of both just suck.
I was already planing on swaping pumps, headgasket, injectors, and peeling off the roof this winter so it ain't gonna be all that much of a pain in the a$$ to me :)

This morning I've retarded the timing and dropped in the factory pin.....guess I'll see what the does. So far after the test drive to tune the afc,all I have is a bunch of start up smoke and and a healthy amount at take off or if lugged. Power is down or at least feel that way,I don't have the huge surge of power that the m&h m2 pin gives it.....which I fine by me :)
Next on the list will be less timing and to see if the factory pin riding all the way up and not sticking,I'm worried that grove at the bottom will hang up on the guide pin. Y'all have any thoughts or comments?

You misspelled "pussing out" in the title. :P

Also, just grind the pin smooth where that groove is, I was worried about it catching as well.

Just run the M&H pin........I think you will find it gives you less off idle fuel (good thing)

Hey man :D it be what it be, I won't lie about it

I had thougt about that, I'll know what to do when I pull it in a day or two.

Eric,I ain't using it......I want the smooth power back, not the all of a sudden surge.....that ain't helpful while pullin and only gives me heat and smoke. Now if I could slow it down that would be a different story.....didn't someone sell afc springs....somewhere
I did take it to town today and the power comes in strong and smooth but seems to be lacking upstairs....missing the fuel, the depth of pin would cause this?
Also the boost psi is down about 8psi,pin related I'm sure, but holy hell at the smoke  at take off. It does turn from black to haze in short order so I know I'm at least head in the right direction......need to find that guy that sells those springs :)

You, my friend.......need a BD Pin. It has a "flat curve" like our stock pin does.

pm me when you want a spring.

Why not just flip your starwheel over so the pin can only travel down so far?

Flip it over? What centers the spring after that Levi? Yours like that?

The spring still doesn't really go anywhere...........but, I've had a few springs get bent over sideways and go poo poo.

Yeah, mine's flipped but I have no idea what the spring is doing in there. That would involve opening it back up and I don't do that unless something's wrong.

I ran one flipped for a LONG time and no issues. I have before though opened it up and my spring was all messed up. It may have been nothing more than me having it too high and binding it up along with way too much boost.
