they are cast, but you can weld on them. i used a millermatic 210 mig welder to weld a HX40 exhaust flange onto my HX35 exhaust housing. so far its held up. i used a torch to heat the parts up before i started welding things together. i am not a good welder by no means, so someone with more experiance may have a different opinion.

As long you you heat up the cast iron and don't let it cool too fast you're good to weld it. Just take your time and have an acetylene torch handy

Take the part with the female threads and get a bolt that fits it. The spring gate I have is light enough I can compress it, but it does take some effort. Then a piece of tubing that the spring goes into and that should be all the ingredients

You can use cast welding rods ( higher nickel content from memory?)with a normal stick welder. Pre and post heat and another trick is to get 2 bags of lime from your local ag store, put one bag in a steel bucket/box, do the welding job and when finished post heating drop it in the box and pour the other bag of lime over top. Pack it down and cover, leave it for a day or two to cool real slow and she will come up nice. Never had a problem doing it this way so far.
