brass freeze plugs ?

Postby jethro » Mon Jul 07, 2014 10:50 pm

Does anyone happen to know if there are brass freeze plugs available for the cummins ?
Has anyone thought of replacing the steel ones with brass ones so that "down the road" you don't have one rusting through....

I see after some googleing ------
Dorman products shows a 2+1/4 inch cup type brass freeze plug.
www.DormanProducts.com 1-800-336-3575

(IF the freeze plug is really that size- they also have them listed by metric size too )

The Cummins plugs are metric, don't put in an american one or you'll be doing it again. Seen it done. ;)

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Can't find a part number I would imagine brass or stainless freeze plugs would be used in the marine version.

Yes- I suspected that the American ones are a little "not-tight-enough" !

I will try freightliner dealer or case tractor dealer next week.......
