Hardcore rattle... sounds like a ruler slapping a desk randomly (CR are notorious for this one)... Loud ticking/knocking. Tappet sounds...

Yep all of the above. Idle to like two gs,it will tap.....randomly,not always. Every time you hit 24 or 2500 is real loud. Funny thing is I never noticed the high rpm rattle/knocking till I did the 4k gov springs. The light tapping has been there since a few months ago tho.....least to my memory.

Sounds like it might be simply a timing thing..

If the timing is JUST RIGHT.... I've noticed a 12 valve can sound like it has bad injectors. Mine at certain timing/load sounds like it has leaking injectors. Advance or retard timing, and it goes away.

Wonder if I may have fubar'd the flex plate and that is what the high rpm crap is

Looks like I'll be trying out my injector pop tester this weekend.

When I ballooned my converter and screwed up the flex plate, I could have sworn it was top end noise

That's good to know Caleb. The converter in there has a billet cover and solid bolt ring and should not be ballooning,it is mine tho. I'll keep this in mind.
