5.9 won't start after rebuild

Postby wilkyflex » Sun Dec 21, 2014 1:28 pm

Hey guys, just did a complete rebuild on my 5.9 cummins engine. It won't start. Here's a video showing what happens.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23TiSNs ... e=youtu.be

I don't know why it won't start. Can you help?

I thought I was very careful about the timing when assembling it. Locked the injection pump at TDC and removed it and put it back the same way.

Aligned the "0" on the crank to the "0 0" on the camshaft at TDC with pin inserted, then put the injection pump drive gear back in the same place aligning to letter E. Can anyone give me any ideas.

It just doesn't fire at all even though it is getting fuel. The only time it ever fired during a start attempt was when I sprayed carb cleaner in the intake, and it would only fire once or twice. It has never tried to start or fire on any of the cylinders without spray in the intake.

check the keyway? You mean check the keyway of the injection pump, that the key is in the right place? Or the camshaft? Not sure what you mean?
Thank you

Make sure it is in its place in the injection pump

ok, thank you. I will. I was very careful when putting it in, so I visually looked at the key to make sure it was in there properly. But it won't hurt to check it again. Any other ideas?
Thanks

Well, at least the timing was advanced for a cold start! Glad it was something simple for you, it sounds good.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.
