Turbo Change

Postby lazyjoe » Mon May 19, 2008 11:26 am

I have a chance to buy a turbo off of a 98 12V. Will this fit on my 93, and what changes can I expect. I'v been wanting to upgrade my turbo and exhaust. Would this be a good move, or would I be better off with an hx35, or something like that. The truck has 255,000 miles on it, so I don't want to push it too hard. I mainly pull stock trailers with it, and soon it will have a flat bed, and hay spear. Any suggestions would be great.

95, 2500, 4/4, 5" turbo back. So far.

The 98 12V is, a HX35 and will bolt right up. the only question is in the exh area, as the waste gated housing will push the exh back about a inch

The 99 and newer 24V would take a little bit more work.

I had an HX 35 from an 01 on my truck briefly. I kept my 16cm exhaust housing and put the rest of the 35 on that. No moving the pipe or anything. I didn't notice a big difference. I went and bought a stage IV kit for my H1C, it only had 15k on it anyways.

60mm 6 blade wheel, compressor housing, and a backing plate, from HTT. It's hard to get parts from them now, GDS has the same thing, minus the plate, (you machine yours) for $100 less. The 6 blade wheel is taller that the 60 mm 8 blade.
A stage III has an 8 blade 60mm wheel, and the housing. Use the stock backing plate.

What it does is crams a lot more air in there! ;)

GDS can be found here: http://www.gdsdieselparts.com/ or here (this is their new website, minus Dodge apps for now, according to their old website): http://www.gillettdiesel.com/.
