Upgrade or Replace?

Postby Ace » Thu Jul 24, 2008 10:29 am

The stock 9mm non-IC injectors will flow more fuel than any compressor upgrade can handle. I'd forget about the injectors and just do the 366 spring, a 60mm compressor upgrade and turn up the fuel screw, after you install an EGT gauge. Those things will run you around $300 + S&H.

Don't worry about injectors unless you're planning on a whole new bigger turbo and full 4" exhaust. That would put it in the >$2,000 range all in, if you do the work yourself.

4" exhaust with 6" stacks are already in my plans what turbo should i upgrade to if i were to buy 90hp POD injectors with the 366 spring and ip screw turned up i know the non ic injectors are larger than the ic's and i wont get all 90hp... Im really wanting to get in to 300+ hp range and lots o'smoke...

YES all the work will be done myself

You can get 300 with the stockers. I wouldn't waste my money on PODs. People 'round here seem to like the Super HX40s. S300 would a little nicer, more expensive. PDR has a nice line of turbos:

But get some nice injectors to go with it, not PODs if you're going that route.

Those things right there should put you over 300 easy, but you'll have to be careful with the EGT, it will get hot quick. My stock IC injectors with a compressor upgrade, powerstroke IC and free flowing intake/exhaust will get up to 1300 on a long, hard pull. The combo you're talking about would probably peg the pyro in a few seconds.

Here's my .02, put a new fuel pin in it, look up dennyT he has the best lookin pin I've seen, turn the full power screw in as far as you can without causing a runaway, advance your timing, push the pump all the way to the head, do the 366 spring, add a 4" exhaust, and figure out some way to cool that thing down cause your egt's are gonna be way to high. I'm runnin an old innercooler and I have water methanol injection and I can still see the high side of 1400 degrees if I'm not careful. I'm still runnin the stock injectors, and with my set up I can smoke out a lane of traffic when I floor it, I can spin the tires when I shift into third and bark'em when I hit fourth. But before you do anything else install an egt gauge, you don't want to damage your engine.

To Help with EGTs you can put in a aftermarket Cam it will decrease turbo spool up times reduce EGTs by bout 150 to 300 degrees and add a few extra horsepower also
