Value of 5.9 cummins engine?

Postby Lee Majors » Tue Sep 02, 2008 7:21 pm

I have sold a hand full of p-pumped 5.9's but never a VE pump 5.9

I have had enough trying to catch this electrical gremlins on my 91.5 D350 and im about 90% sure im going to part it out.

What should I ask for this it has 165K on the motor and it runs great!

Also not sure what axle it has under it being a dually is it a dana 80? what are they worth.

Not sure what automatic transmission is even in the truck? it has OD I know that!

What other parts are generally valuable and can be sold off?

Route 19 Auto Wreckers who advertise on car-part.com had a 90 listed a year ago complete from fan to flexplate with the wiring harness, 50,000 miles at $1500 and after 3 months sold it locally for $1250. The truck also had a 3.07 rear end that sold locally for $300. I helped them by advertising the parts. I bought the rust free RH door for $100, almost perfect seat for $50, two piece drive shaft with center bearing for $35, and misc interior parts. Keep in mind that prices vary depending on where you are located and with demand.

WHat kind of electrical gremlins? I sold a 91 nonIC that had some electrical issues. Wish I hadnt sold it sometimes.

I think the engine would be worth about $15-1800, depending on how smooth it runs, leaks, what is included with it, etc.

DP: It's got a new alternator & starter and still battery won't stay charged overnight.

Had the starter checked and it was pulling 400amps so we replaced that. Then the alternator was checked and it was not charging the batteries...it was no good so we replaced that and still something isn't working quite right. The key is stuck in the ignition.

Other than that the motor runs like a champ. Smoothe and still makes the squeek when you shut it down like a new truck.
