it affects timing, turning your pump to the head would advance your timing, the other direction retards it.
I dont know what it will do for a stock governed truck, but on a truck with a 366 spring (3200 governer spring) you will see slightly lower boost numbers and much more power and pick up. it really wakes 'er up
