Solid Motor Mounts

Postby MrHorsepower » Sat Mar 14, 2009 7:44 pm

Anyone running solid motor mounts? Any complaints with vibrations? I am building a second set, and I am thinking about building solid mounts. I am sure the Chevy mounts will collapse from the Cummins. I have the mounts from the donor truck, but no crossmembers or anything.
Any thoughts?

I would recommend rubber mounts for a daily driver. Solid mounts transmit a lot of vibration and are harder on the engine block because there is no give. With no give the block now becomes a structural component of the frame and in high flex operations could overstress the block as it tries to keep the frame from twisting.

I was worried about vibration and ride quality, never thought about what it would do to the block. I will try and use the Dodge mounts to fab up new mounts.
I have seen conversion mounts for $350-500. Figure I can build a heavy set much cheaper.

i used the dodge mount and a piece of 1/2" rubber sandwiched between the mount and frame due to clearance issues.
Works well and is as close to solid as one can get

Vibration is minimal
