White smoke

Postby robert ibe » Tue Apr 14, 2009 8:40 am

Hi all this is my first post here. I just finnished driving from galveston tx to las vegas nv it took 30 hrs streight through, I let the truck sit overnight and when I started it in the moning it was blowing large amounts of white smoke and running very rough, it cleaned up and began running as it should after 4 blocks. Oil looks good as I changed it and the filter just before the trip, radiator is still full, fluid is clean and no bubbles, so I would rule out the head gasket. I've had the truck about 8 months and put 8000 on it in that time. this is the first time this has happened. Any sugestions as to what might be causing this?? . I'll see if it does it again today after sitting all night and report back.

Thanks
Robert

Might be your KSB. Does it clear up after a few minutes? What about the temp when it does this- is it only on cooler mornings?

I can clear the parking lot with my white smoke and I am still trying to track down the problem, I thought I blew my head gasket so I replaced it and put some ARP studs in but the problem persists. It feels like it has a miss on one cylinder so I am getting my injectors fixed up and see if that fixes it. My smoke never goes away though. I was told I could have busted one of the coil springs that ride on the plunger inside my pump but I don't know. I may have just vapor locked a few of my injectors due to running 6x18's on a stock lift pump. Dunno.

6x18s and a stock lift pump normally arent a good idea. What is a vapor lock? Isnt it something with old carburetors? If so, unlikely on a diesel.

Broken springs in the pump (at least the return springs on the H&R wont normally cause white smoke. Rough idle, yes.

May be time to get your pump looked at.

I was told early on when this problem happened that if your LP can't keep up with your injectors.... supm a rather happens and your injectors can get "vapor locked" and that messes them up.... huuuu, spose they were jackin me around to get their post count up. So you guys are saying that it is unlikely that it is my injectors? I can get a brand new pump from my bosch guy for about $550. so when I get back I will get it and us this one for R&D and what-not. Thanks guys.

You sure you didnt miss a "2" in front of that $550? If not, where can we get in line for a $550 new pump?

Advanced Diesel Injection down here in San Diego. He has a NON-IC (what I'm buyin) and a couple IC pumps that are just sittn there and he has no idea what he has. LOL. It may just be my price because I bring all my fuel problems to him first but he seemed pretty set on "FIVE HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS" no typo.

He also has quite a few rebuilt P-pumps of verying hp-ratings for $600 and 2 brand spankin new 215 pumps for 1,000 each. I really wanted to go p-pumped but I think i'm just going to build a super motor from the ground up on the side in my garage.

Unfortunately no, I am leaving for Afghanistan this Thursday so I wont even be able to get anything for myself for the next 6 months. I got that non-IC pump on hold till I get back and will be super sore if someone swoops it. LOL His number is 619-232-6452. Mon-Fri, closes at 5. He won't ship anything but I'm sure he will be stoked to sell a couple of them off because he has been unable to move a single one since I started getting my work done there. Good luck guys and I will try to be on as much as possible so keep me updated and keep up the helpful and hour burning conversations.
