Single stack, no muffler

Postby Ironforger » Sat Jul 23, 2011 11:23 am

My factory exhaust is rusting & on it's last leg. I'd like to replace with a 3.5" or 4" single stack system, no muffler.

Recomendations? It looks like it should be easy finding the straight stack and guard, but what about the various bends i'll need from turbo to stack?

Thanks!

Pure deisel power has a nice 4in. Down pipe that i just installed that fits great. They also have the rest of the odds and ends you'll need to get it done.

The very best deal on exhaust systems is through TV Diesel. They have complete Diamond Eye 4 inch systems for 275 delivered. If your going with a stack its still cheaper to get the whole system and use what you need then keep the rest. I know lots of people that have bought just a 4 inch downpipe for over 200 then pay shipping on top of that. On my 93 I used a diamond eye system and hooked a set of stacks to it. I have the extra pipes in case I ever need some, or I could also switch it over to a regular system if the mood ever strikes.

Great suggestion Richie O.

So the TV Diesel kit will have enough bends to do 1 stack? If I go for it, just wondering if I'll need anything else considering the pipe is going out sideways instead of straight back.

Also, should I put a short piece of flex pipe in there somewhere to soak up the engine torque movement?

Thanks

You will need some flex pipe to get from the intemediate pipe to the bed stack. I used about a 3 to 4 foot section. On my 93 I used the muffler from the kit too. I loved the straight pipe sound, but it was a little to loud in town.

Good info Richie.

Where did you put the muffler? Is there room for it if you do a single stack?

Also wondering where you found the flex pipe. I found this vendor, looks pretty reasonable: http://store.airflo.com/ss4.html

Thanks!

If you have a big truck shop near you they may have a piece of flex they'll sell you reasonable. Bettert then buying a 10 foot length or something. I only have a foot of it in my '97.

The only way I got the muff to fit was because it is an extended cab. I could not do the same thing in a reg cab truck. On my ex cab I put the muffler on the intermediate pipe and at the end off the muff it was right to jump straight up to my stack hook up. On another 89 reg cab truck I had with a single stack I came out of the muff, turned 180 degrees back twords the front, then hooked to it that way. ( the muffler outlet was just before the axle ) I got my flex at a heavy truck parts supplier. In my case I got it by the foot. You may even find it at NAPA. I know they can get it.

I got a HX40 style 4 inch flange and v band clamp from JKIDD. He runs Diesel Auto Power. There is a link in the " Members Endeavor " section. He may have what you need.

Thanks guys.

I have a utility body, so I'm not going up through the bed. My stack will be tucked between the passenger side door pillar and the utility body. That's why I want to go with either 3.5 or 4. Not a tremendous amount of room to work with, and I may need to move my util body back an inch or so.

As for the flex pipe, 1st choice is stainless, but I may settle for galv.
