Fuel Filter Housing Leak

Postby collegekid » Sun Sep 25, 2011 3:14 pm

I am leaking fuel down the side of my fuel filter, a considerable amount, I checked to make sure it was tight, and its snug, not to tight, this is the third one, with the same results every time, first one had a busted o-ring, 2nd one I thought it had a leaking water sensor, this is the third and got a filter with a closed bottom, its still dripping fuel off the filter, is it possible for the housing to be cracked that the fuel filter screws into, or is there another possibility that Im overlooking

Probably a crack in the fuel heater. Either get a new one, or get the heater delete nipple. There is a part # for the nipple somewhere on this forum. I've ran mine at -40 without a fuel heater.

The o-ring on the nipple only keeps the clean fuel from the dirty. I bet it's the heater too. Genos Garage has them, I can't remember how much. Or it may be the o-ring above the heater.
Clean it with brake cleaner, start it up and watch close.

ive had the stud that you screw the filter on to come loose, get a washer or a thin piece of metal and try tightening it

I had the same problem this weekend and saw where the PO's neighbor had helped him patch a fuel heater leak with JB Weld. The local Cummins shop got it for me (3925945) the next day, $22 out the door. Quick and easy fix. I wish everything went that easily.

Or it could be the o-ring on the top of the heater

just changed my fuel filter had it leaking from the top, changed the top heater gasket and no more leak, you have to unscrew the fuel filter bolt, take the heater off and the gasket is on top, if it's never been changed guess what the gasket is no good and you need a new one if it leaks up top , the old one just looses it's elasticity or ability to hold back the fluid, gaskets don't last forever.
