IP problems

Postby 9312v » Sun Apr 08, 2012 10:02 pm

decided to day to see if i couldnt get some more out of my fuel screw. well i guess i couldnt leave well enough alone. ended up some how breaking this Image
ouch i know. well im hoping to have it fixed tomorrow but i was throwing around some ideas.

1. see if any dealer around me has the part. which would either require complete removal or maybe i could get lucky enough for partial removal of the pump
2. weld the tab back on with it still in the truck.(tig welding) not too sure how strong that would be. how much stress does that part see?

the only benefit i see from complete removal is lock tighting the front seal.

thoughts suggestions?

ouch. I did that once (ok, twice) too. It's called the fulcrum lever. It's stupid expensive new ($200 from bosch). I got one from a guy on here cheap, and then got a used spare from a local pump shop. I tried to tig mine too and it wasn't happy. The fuel is so oily, it's in all the nooks and cranny's in there and it won't get any penetration without burning through.

Yes, the pump has to come off, and apart. May as well seal it all back up since you'll be in that far. The reseal kit is $20. I ground on a 13mm socket a bit until it fit those triangle bolts good enough to take them out/put them in.

When you put it back together, remember to back off the full power screw before the top goes on so it doesn't do it again. Good luck!

i was surprised that it welded alright for the coating? thats was on it. got it stuck the first time to find out once i looked that it was backwards. i used some 304 1/16 filler and a piece of 1/8 filler to hook up the ground. also striped out the fuel screw hole... fml and grainger ordered the wrong kit. who needs 30 single helicoils?

putting it back together after the lock tight dries. man this weeks check ig going to suck haha

haha! I did the fuel screw deal too! I had issues with the helicoil though and fabbed up a bracket with a nut welded in it for the screw to thread in and out of, bolted it to the existing steel bracket on the back of the IP, and locked it down with a chunk of safety wire. I couldn't get a helicoil in it without jacking up the area where the o-ring rides. Put about 4K miles on it since the fix without any issues. Glad to hear you got it welded. I still have my broken one, I'll have to try some 304 1/16 on it on the bench so I have another spare... just in case!

i had the same issue with the o ring so i found another "crush" washer and used a little lock tight on the end. it seams to be sealed. new screw possibly if i want to mess with the pump more.
