Lift pump looks like it's leaking

Postby cummins32 » Mon Apr 16, 2012 7:10 pm

I was installing my gauges and, it looks like my lift pump has been leaking, Is it a gasket or the pump itself, The only mods done to it are the starwheel turned down, smoke screw turned down flush, 4 inch diamond eye exhaust, and a denny t stage 2 fuel pin. Also after I put my fuel pin in, my injection pump started leaking really bad, is it to much fuel pressure ? Thanks, this is also my first diesel

It's common for the stock lift pumps to fail, leaking both externally and internally. Stock replacement pumps can be had pretty inexpensivley, but since you got to replace it, might as well get a Low Pressure Piston Lift Pump or get an electric lift pump. They put out optimum fuel pressure to the VE. Those stock pumps put out anywhere between 3 and 7psi of fuel pressure, which is fine for a stock truck, so even a brand spanking new one isn't going to run the kind of pressure that is gonna affect the front seal on the VE ;)

For the LPPP, there are several around, do some diggin on here, there was a thread none too long ago that listed a few places to buy them. As for electric, several guys on here run Holley Blacks.

Oregon Fuel Injection has one for $60, but it isn't "blessed" by Cummins. The Cummins one is $180. You'll have about $80 wrapped up in the spacer plate, line, gaskets, etc. if you go this way.

It's HFP702, towards the bottom of the page http://oregonfuelinjection.com/index.php?pid=32
