testing a oil heat exchanger

I have a 92 with a five speed with oil in the coolant, im hoping it the oil exchanger and not the head gasket. Ive done a head gasket before and dont want to do it again. So im asking if someone knows how to test the oil exchanger?

best bet is to just pull it off and have a look-see. probably easier than trying to find an aparatust that could put pressure to it, and do a leak down test
