need ideas of whats wrong with pump.

Postby JustinRhodes » Sat Dec 03, 2011 8:15 pm

I believe i have narrowed my problem down to the pump itself. Ive replaced fuel filter, injectors, feed/return lines, removed plunger in shut off solenoid, installed low pressure piston lift pump, installed fuel pressure gauge, and checked to make sure afc was working. All of that and it still isnt working right.

Now let me explain what its doing. Has a little miss around half throttle, has no middle-top end fuel, kind of surges so to speak when boost comes in.

So does anyone have any ideas what could possibly be wrong with my pump?

Ive spent many hours fooling with the truck trying to fix the problem, ive got it narrowed down this far and I want to get it running back to the way it was so i can say i fixed it. Then on to the pee pump

Any help is appreciated.

How many miles are on the IP? Somethings just get worn out and need a rebuild

Unsure, i replaced the one that was on it because it was messed up. This is just a used one that came off a buddies truck after he pee pumped it.

Did you check to see if the AFC cone was still bolted to the diaphragm?

Also, anything missing from the tip of the FSS plunger?

Well i could be completely talking out my rear end here, but it sounds like the vane pump inside the IP is worn out and not keeping up. If i understand correctly, it sends fuel where it needs to go within the pump

afc cone was still bolted down yes, and the FSS plunger looked brand new to my suprise.

cmann, I am unsure of the internal workings of the ve pump, however that sounds like it very well may be my problem. It acts like its running out of fuel when i have 20 psi too it.

What about the pin that rides on the fuel cone is it moving or stuck in?

Now, just because an electrical component looks good, don't mean it is good. ;)

Take the plunger out and set it aside. Report back. This does sound like my truck when the plunger and solenoid took a crap.

I have to wonder if you are really going to P7100 this truck, why do you want to fix the VE?

But did you take out the plunger? It could restrict fuel.
