Engine didn't shot off, once........

Postby IrishChamp » Mon Dec 12, 2011 8:42 pm

The other day when I went to shut down the truck it wouldn't shut down, tried a couple times, no luck. The manual shutoff worked.
Its been shutting off normal ever sense. I had recently turned up the IP a little more, idled fine, still idles fine, everything is/was normal.
Prior to the non shut off event I had gotten into the throttle more than normal, egt's only hit 14-1500, that is higher than before, like I said I did recently turn up the IP. . I hadnt goosed it much sense turning up the ip recently.
The only thing now is that it does seem like it sputters a bit when shutting down.

Where is the shut off silanoid? Is it hard to replace, I'm assuming mine is going bad? Is there any danger to other parts of my truck, should I do anything to help or prevent problems?
Thanks in advance.

The shut off soleniod is on the rear of the pump, assuming the pump is attached at the front. There's a wire going to it (blue in my case), it's above the injector lines. I've never had one go bad, so i've never taken one out. I suppose if it breaks apart, it could wreak havoc internally. Also, tuned up injection pumps supposed to eat FSS's like candy. I've had my truck turned up since summer and i haven't had so much as a hiccup. You could avoid future FSS issues and rig up a pull cable

Thanks,
That would really suck if the FSS ruined the pump! Well I'll keep my fingers crossed on that one.
Thanks.

when you get it out, look at the end of the plunger, there will probably be a little chip missing out of it,lol, as far as where that little chip goes im not sure, other people probably know

One or two chewed up solenoid tips. The rubber off of them eventually collects and clogs up your delivery valves.

Well it's perminantly dead, I'm using the manual kill every time now. Can someone point me towards a replacement? Should I even bother replacing it, I know some use a pull cord of some sort. If the truck is going to keep killing them and potentially cause damage to the pump I don't want that! :)

BC had a writeup, I think, about how he just ground the rubber off the tip of his until the steel showed. The steel on the end of the solenoid will shut the truck off as long as you don't nick it getting the rubber off. Just try cleaning off your old one and hooking it back up, the steel won't chip no matter how high pressures get.
