CI-4 has zinc in it, most big name oil has it removed because it is supposedly not good for DPF's and cat converters. Zinc in oil will slow down the normal wear inside an engine. Kinda like the old #2 before this low sulfur crap came out...

I have some Rosmella, and Mobil Delvac, both CI-4 PLUS. The farm store stuff I put in the gassers and some CTD trucks says it meets, CJ-4, CI-4 PLUS, CG-4, CF/SL whatever any of that means. I prefer Delvac only due to the bottle opening/shape. But will buy whatever is on sale, any of the top names, Delvac, Delo 400, Premium Blue and Rosmella. I generally stay away from Rotella due to the smell. The last thing we as 1st gen owners need is a 'strange' smell from the truck alerting our olfactory lobe of a possible issue/danger.

I guess I really never noticed the smell of Rotella, I must have gotten use to it over the years working in a truck shop...

Bill, like said before, the CI-4 is like the old #2. If it says CJ-4 on it, it is like the ATF-4, it supercedes ATF-3.

Higher zinc and phosphorus or sulphur are in CI-4. The additive package in CJ-4 doesn't have these so the more delicate emissions burdened trucks don't get hurt. They lack proper lubrication for the cam most notably.

Rotella???????? What do you use fram filters too! Lol i did use rotella till i loooked at the back of the bottle and realised it was pensoil!!!! So now i run premium blue (only really cause it says cummins on the bottle) actually my machine shop had a sheet that came with a custom ground gasser cam and delvac has the most zink and phosporus and all that other crap with delo a close second.... Or just go to orileys and get a bottle of the zzdp adative.... yeah its like $20 bucks but when you run good filters 12-15 each and buying 3 gal of oil whats another 20! I run a half gal of lucas hd in mine every oil change cause it seems that the 3 gal it is suposed to hold only brings it to the add line so i just use a half gal of that to top it off

Truck runs slightly smoother when cold and a lot less rattle. Only difference I have noticed this last week.
