How to check fuel PSI??

Postby slow_90firebird » Wed Mar 21, 2012 10:15 pm

Hey guys I was wondering the cheapest / easiest way to check the fuel PSI on a 1993? I just did a piston lift pump upgrade, i used the cummins line, spacer, gaskets, but got the delphi HFP702 pump from oregon fuel injection for $75 to save money.

The truck runs great with the new pump, the problem is that it ran great before also. I cant feel a lick of difference. So either the Delphi isnt performing any better than the diaphragm, or I was expecting too much. Also, the only other small difference is starting up it takes a few cranks now where it started first crank every time before... no big deal tho.

I think I read somewhere that you can use the hole for the bleeder screw that sits in the banjo bolt at the filter, but not sure where I could find a fitting or cheap guage.

I am not looking for a inside the cab deal, just something for diagnosis under the hood. I have an actron pressure tester kit for my TBI firebird and the guage will screw onto any standard schrader valve on most gas fuel rails, if I could make that work it would be great. If not i saw a little guage at autozone made for carb applications, supposed to stay under the hood and reads up to 15psi...

Get a tapped banjo bolt from Geno's for a 2nd Gen. It will fit ours. Also, you usually don't feel a difference in everyday driving if you had a good stocker before. 2 things most people see are less smoke and more power in the higher (above 22-2500) RPMs.

X3 on the bolt from genos. It's only $7 and it's harder to build one. BTDT. The outlet in it is 1/8th NPT, so it's easy to adapt from it to a gauge.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.
