took pump apart....now no start

Postby Deathrod » Wed Apr 25, 2012 5:28 pm

my throttle shaft was leaking so i got the gaskets and took it apart enough to swap the new gaskets, put it all together....just cranks, no smoke. took it apart about 6 times to try to figure out whats wrong....same result. the throttle shaft is indexed the same as before, the fuel pin is pushed back out against the cone (this caused me a no start b4 when i had it apart). Even played around with indexing it differently. each time when i take it back apart it pours out fuel so i know the lp is working, but no smoke = no fuel being delivered right??? any ideas????

You still using the FSS or are you pull cable? Sounds like a FSS issue to me. Have you tried pressing the throttle while cranking? Did you bleed the lines at the injectors to see if your getting fuel?

Yes I'm using the fss and i didn't check the lines.....fss has 12v. But no fuel smell from exhaust.....I'll try the lines...any other ideas?

If you didnt bleed the air out of the lines and get fuel to the injectors it will never start.

Hmmm never had a problem before....took this thing apart a few times, fires right up. To bleed just crank it and open the injector lines?

Yeah its easier with 2 people. I usually start at the front and crack each line until it has a good stream and then work my way back. Normally by the 4th one it will start.

What I do is loosen all of the lines until you can spin by hand, crank until fuel is squirting from all six lines. Then tighten them all and it'll fire right up. You would probably be able to get it to start with only doing four lines but I just do them all anyways.

I've gotten lucky and not had to bleed lines a couple times, but bleeding them is a sure way to rule that out. Is the manual shut down lever indexed correctly?

Cracked the lines....constant flow of fuel, so that's not it. Manual shut off is fine on the outside, and I didn't touch it while inside the pump....could something have moved?? This seemed so straight forward, nothing complex....but it's pi$$in me off

Ooh ya if the fss is not working, no fuel would make it to injectors right?

Constant flow, or a short, giant spurt from them at separate times? My injectors cover the whole exhaust side of my engine in diesel when I crack them open and crank it over.

You will get fuel with a a bad FSS or no power. Just the fuel won't squirt as high as if it's working.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Should it "squirt" out it the injector lines or run out. Just find it hard to believe that my fss would fail the one time I take the pump apart. I'm gonna tear into it tomorrow...have to get this thing running...it's in a carshow soon....I'm not pushin it there

On a motor with no problems,if you were to crack the injector lines at the injectors, the fuel should spray out from about 10 to 12". There will be a definite spray to it
