BHAF Part numbers

Postby shoot4fun » Thu Feb 21, 2008 1:33 pm

This info is probably here somewhere, but I thought I'd gather a little bit of it into one place.

These are all WIX numbers. NAPA is the same, just drop the first number.

HEIGHT: OD: INLET: PART#
10.880 x 8.5 x 3.054 - 46314
11.880 x 10.5 x 4.00 - 46423
12.380 x 8.5 x 3.00 - 46634
12.380 x 8.5 x 4.00 - 46637
(all dimensions are inches)

The above filters are self contained, and are disposable. Housing is plastic and can be used as dust/heat shield with a little modification.

I have also found some other filters with housings that have 2 holes, possibly for a cold air intake tube routing that would eliminate the need to build a box or cover? Some are larger than those listed here. If anyone is interested, I can post part #'s for those as well.

Hope this helps.

These sound kind of interesting to me.

What would the be called even?

interesting to see that the generally accepted bhaf number, 42790, did not make the list. id like to see how it compares to the others.

From NAPA Online:

FIL 2790
HGHT: 11.88 in
ID: 4 in
OD: 10.5 in
TOP: Closed
Note that the 2790 has the same listed dimensions as the FIL 6423. But, the 2790 is $76 while the 6423 is $80. The 6423 has "extra holes" in the side in the picture.

FIL 6343
HGHT: 9.781 in
ID: 4.625 in
OD: 7.875
TOP: Hole
A stock filter costs $43.

How are guys mounting these to the stock intake? The stock filter is 4 5/8's inner diameter; is it common to trim out the middle of the BHAF to get back the lost diameter?

And how is it stuck on to any air intake? Drill a hole in the top, get a long piece of allthread and use a grommet?

Seems to me like the stock filter is from from restrictive at my current power level. And the inner diameter of the stocker is bigger than any of the BHAF's.

I wonder if I can mount two stock filters in my box...

CFM

They key spec you are not mentioning is the CFM rating (cubic feet/min.) The stock filter is rated around 450cfm. That's enough to support up to a little less than 300hp, based on some complicated fuel-air combustion efficiency formula with many variables. The BHAF's flow alot more.

How do you find CFM ratings?
