Pump Timing Info

hey all, I'm looking for some good info to help me adjust my spill port lift,I can't find a FSM around and want to tackle it this weekend....just to know for myself, I'm hearing some different kind of clattering since I backed off the fuel screws and think it may be over-advanced...what are some other symptoms of this?
