Seal BLOWOUT!

Postby 75Dodge » Wed Mar 12, 2008 10:54 pm

And it's not a great sale! THe front seal blew out on my pump. And it dumped a crap load of fuel into my oil. I was driving it on the freeway mostly around 60-65. with the occasional push into 70-75mph. I get into town and I get a low oil pressure light and my gauge drops to nothing...

Open the hood at home and fuel is pouring out the front of my front gear case...

I removed the pump and the front seal on the pump is just popped free. And it isn't torn up. I just rebuilt the pump about 600 miles ago and now this...

What would cause this to happen? What do I about the fuel in the engine oil? I know to drain it and change the filter, but should I use some sort of detergent in the motor?

Any help you guys can provide will be great. THANKS!

How much fuel pressure are you running, are you sure you used the correct seal? You could use some red loctite on it to help hold it in. I have had good success with that in place of a seal retainer.

Just change the oil and filter, should be ok. What little bit is in the galleys won't hurt anything. Might want to pull the shut off solenoid wire, and crank it until the pressure comes up. ;-)

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Hey KTA, I am running stock pressure. Other than the 3200K spring, I don't have any other mods. The full load screw isn't even turned up... That is why I think the seal wasn't seated properly.

Thanks for the info!

if it blew out with stock fuel pressure then you have a setting issue, mine blew out at 30psi double stock pressure

So the question now becomes how do I install it properly?
