Fuel shutoff solenoid problem solved

Postby Brutus_Marcus » Fri Aug 15, 2008 12:02 am

Here are a couple of photographs of a mico bosch pump used with the Cummins6BT around these parts of the world. Seems like they already had an idea about the leaky fuel shutoff solenoid, so they just hooked up the solenoid directly to the manual lever. Wonder why Dodge cummins never did this....
Also, i remember somebody talking about the exhaust brakes not being compatible with non-wastegated Turbos, but here almost all the 6BT's have the non-gated hx35's with the exhaust brakes, and that too on 35ton trucks.

What part of the world we talking about, Bikram? Just about anything is compatible with anything if you can find the right parts or make them yourself. :P

That looks more like it's hooked to where the KSB should be. Hard to tell in the pic. Must be a lever activated timing advance!

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Pete, the KSB would go where the diamond is in the lower left corner of the picture. The RPM timing advance works without the KSB; the KSB just shoves the advance piston over when cold (or switched on). Looks like a different lever for the manual shut off, then the solenoid attached to the rear bracket, right below where mine is bent over to gain access to the Dodge solenoid.

I can't see why they would do that. Take something simple and reliable, make it complicated and less reliable.

heard the orignal solenoid has problems handling high pressure. The rubbers seal around the shutdown pin wears off with high pressure. Thats why lots of ppl with hotrodded fuel injection pumps use the manual lever for shutdown.

From the bosch VE manual it is a:

"Mechanical cold-start accelerator (KSB), advance mechanism with automatic operation
(cold-start position)"

page 41

well, its hooked to the top lever, the one with 5033 stamped on it. Quite difficult to make out in the pictures but thats the way it comes here. Pitty most of the ppl change the ve for the 'A' pump here. Running costs of the 'P' pump are just to high, and the 'A' is absolutely bulletproof. Its used to haul 25ton trucks so low rpm stock springs are the norm.
