leakin shut off lever and no shut off

Postby randyswelding » Mon Feb 09, 2009 8:33 pm

ok to start with this i have a shut off cable going to the shut off lever and it had some slack in the cable,so i loosened the nut for the lever(for the bolt head is on the inside of the lever) and tightened the cable up and fallowed that by tightening the lever nut.started the truck and tried the cable and nothin, still ran but didnt pull out as far which is what i wanted but still ran and when i felt around the lever it was leakin fuel.i did see the oring behind the lever and spring but is there another one on the inside and what in the heck did i do.tomarrow i got to go and get my tools from where im workin on my other motor to get the top off and see whats goin on.thanks for any help

Randy:
Take a look at post #17 in this link it shows the shut off lever, seal and washer assembly and you can see that it moves the fulcrum lever to shut off the fuel. http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/dev/showthread.php?t=200901&page=2

If I understood you correctly, you moved the shut down lever on the outside of the pump to take slack out of you shut down cable?. If so the lever on the inside of the pump is probably not in the right place in relation to the lever on the outside, and therefore you are not getting the movement necessary to move the previously mentioned fulcrum lever and stop the flow of fuel.
If you have another pump top, look at the position of the lever on the outside of the pump top in comparison with the lever on the inside. If you pull your pump top off of your truck I think you will see that the two parts of the shut down lever are not located properly, and all this rambling might actually make sense. Good luck. :)
