Balancer question

Probably a total newbie question, but can I take the balancer with the tach pick-up off of my 94 motor and put it on my 89? I just wanna make sure cause my wallet wont let me learn the hard way lol
'94 Chevy 3500-HD cab and chassis- IC Cummins, Getrag, NP205. 60 front, 80 rear- 4.10's.
