Re-Torqed My Head Bolts And Now Have A hard Start Problem

Postby RSWORDS » Wed Apr 01, 2009 5:18 pm

Well last night I re-torqued my head bolts to 120lbs. Now I have a hard start. This truck has ALWAYS started up easy when its warm out, sucks in cold weather but its 60* outside, well now when I go to start the truck I have to hold the pedal down 1/4 way while cranking, runs like crap for about 2 or 3 seconds then clears right up and runs smooth as silk. Sounds/feels like air in lines but I cant find a leak were its leaking down. I disconeccted the injectors when doing he head bolts but they have been bled. Once it starts it runs like there is no problem, I let it idle for 30 min, drove it up the road 20 miles and when you cut if off if you start it right up it starts fine. Let it sit for 10 min and its hard to start. I checked all the fittings on my 3/8" lines and Walbr pump, dont see a leak... Any ideas? Could the pump be leaking down internaly?

Thanks
Bobby

Check the return copper washers that are on the injector

check the nuts to the injectors, make sure there not lose.

check the nuts on the injector lines to the pump make sure there not lose

make sure nothing is cross threaded, and everything is tight

I didn't remove the injectors, just the lines on teh injector side. Left them attached to the pump. i have no fuel leaking at all. I cleaned and dryed the head this morning before letting it idle and running it. No wet spots at all.

Use the "piece of clear line before the IP" trick. If you see bubbles when cranking the engine over the you are picking up air in the supply line some where.

Well I filled up my tank today (it was under 1/8 of a tank) and my hard start went away. I guess my draw straw was picking up air or something with the low fuel... I dont know...

With a draw straw I would keep it at 1/2 tank or more. It will grab air alot easier then the stock setup.
