Tach question

Postby Swaggs » Sun Jul 12, 2009 1:32 pm

So, does anyone know if I can use a aftermarket, like autometer gasser gauge? I have a 92 so it has both the crank sensor and the spot for the stock gauge to hook up under the dash... thanks guys

Most likely you won't. The Dodge tach signal is only a 5 volt. Most auto tach's need 9 volts and higher to work.

A few people have gotten lucky and they work. Most likely that was caused my a voltage regulator in the PCM sending out a higher voltage than it was supposed to.

There was a thread on here started by Mad Max, and he said he found a way to be able to use any tach, gasser or diesel, in our trucks. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Alright, thanks.... I dont know about drilling and tapping and cutting and welding.. I was just thinking of the best and easiest way to hook up a tach, what do you guys think.. whats the best way? I was reading how they have the dealer installed tachs that they plugged into the gray 4 wire plug by the fuse box, and also how 92+ models have the crank sensor that you can splice off of.. is this all correct? thanks again..

Yep, a '92 should gave a port for a factory tach. Isspro makes a tach that plugs right into the factory plug. As far as I know, they are the only company that offers one like that.

ISSPRO has a tach that also has an available harness to use in the Ddge factory plug-in.
