Postby stock91w350 » Wed Jan 20, 2010 10:24 am

i was told that my pulsating lights were a faulty voltage regulator, got none from napa and it looks totally different than stock and the plug in is also different, i double checked with them and they said thats what they have listed for it, anyone had this issue?

Those things mounted on your wheel wells are the grid heater relays. If you had just started your truck when you noticed the lights going dim. That is a sign the gride heaters were cycling. Did the cycling stop after a couple of miles?

I think he's talking about the vacuum sensor.

It is new last summer. He put it on after his other one crapped out. He new it was messed up but he didn't care. Lots of them are not good when new. The quality is not the best. Try it and see if that fixes it.

Last time I saw the truck it was doing the high low, bright dim dance all the time.

could be, its not under the drivers hinge its just past it toward the front of truck, a little metal box with a plug in going into the bottom

Sometimes just a bad ground somewhere will cause that sysmptom, VR good or not. Make sure to clean up the spots where it bolt down and also run a ground from it direct to the exhaust manifold for best results.

My 89 has a 10 gauge wire from a mount screw on the reg directly to the battery. This is a good idea as said above. It just makes sure the reg is getting a good constant ground.

well my bolts were loose holding on the volt. reg. cleaned them up put them back in, one got tight one dident, even with one loose now the lights dont flicker half as bad. how long after i start my truck should the heaters stay on? i notice when they kick on my volts go way down and the lights get real dim and then back to normal it does this for a few minuts

Depends on how cold it is out. A few minutes is normal, 10-15 or more is not. If you want to tighten that loose bolt, pull it out, put a piece of small tie wire or something like that in the hole, then put the bolt back in. That'll tighten it right up. ;)
