streched head bolts

Postby tim curran » Tue Feb 16, 2010 2:57 pm

 My head gasket leaks on the exh. side by nemder six. I retourqed the visible bolts to 115 in order to get me by. I would like to use ARP head studs when I replace my gasket. Why do the rocker arm posts need to be machined for clearence? What is the best type of gasket to get? I read the article in DP mag on project rust bucket it sounds good.

There is one stud kit that does not require machine work. I think fellow member BC847 has the ones that does not require it. Project " rust bucket " is owned by fellow member JQMILE.

i know the arp kit needs machined because they changed the length of the stud so for proper thread engagement you need that extra .200. correct me if im wrong but isnt the A-1 studs that dont need machining but there is possibly valve cover clearance issue?

Ithink the studs that you do not have to machine the rocker pedestols are the A1 studs. they are a good brand. as well as arp. i have heard more about A1 being better than ARP but im still stuck on which to get. im not going to be going over 60lbs of boost so i think i will just go with the ARP's jsut cause. ARP also has the 625s i thnk that are stronger than the normal ones they sell.
