hard starting still

Postby randyswelding » Sun Mar 14, 2010 5:06 pm

i got a question that has me stumped, the truck will crank and crank and then start this is like after a couple of turns of the motor, its like it has air in the system some where but i cant find it. i bleed the sticks today and went to bass pro and h&h guns and at both places it didnt want to start.all the nuts, bolts, conections are tight new return line and the air dog fuel line.the truck currently has the 370 sticks, air dog 150,pump set mild(i was hittin 38psi now 34psi and didnt change the fuel screw :( ) so this has me confused!i checked everything i dont know how many times and it just doesnt want to start but it will.its just not fun movin around in the rig yard!any ideas i will try anything right now to get it back to startin on the first bump of the starter

Randy:

Only 2 things I can think of. Are you making oil by chance? The fuel could be going out through the front seal. Check the lock nut on the fuel screw. If it has rattled loose it could allow the fuel screw to back out and allow air in.

The IP could be getting tired. How many miles on it? I would try turning up the fuel screw to see if it makes any difference in starting.

I thought about that as well but didn't want to mention it. :bom:

Lift pump issue? How old, which one & did you test the pressure?
Fuel filter gasket & o-ring? Filter tight?

have you played with the timing yet ?

is it possible your motor is getting tired ?

does using or not using your grid heater make any difference ?

When you crack all the injector lines loose and crank it, does it spray fuel all over, or does it just blow bubbles? :yuck:

It takes a lot of fuel in your oil before you can smell it. We had over a gallon extra in a combine motor one time (Perkins 354, that holds about 2 1/2 gallons of oil) and could not smell diesel at all.

motor is on a fresh rebuild like got put back in the begining of october of 09, and the oil level hasnt gone up since i had to put oil in it last week (leaky valley cover but not no more)its at the top line and hasnt moved up. timing is the 1/8" bump on the stock gear marks i havent tryed to crack all lines then crank yet but with it runnin and crack 1 by 1 its just air. im freakin lost cause i had to move 5 times today and spent more time crankin then movin :x

so i loostened all sticks and had dad crank and crank i got the 1st 3 tightened and it fired then finished tightening the rest and seem to run smoother but when i turned it off the same stuff again.so i went to the air dog and the filter was only hand tight and not that tight at all and the water filter had a good amount of water so i tightened the filter and drained the water out so ill find out tomarrow how it is i still need to work on the welder (oil and plugs)tonight
