O ring on back side of pump ksb cover. Mine did that and then it eventually blew out.

I had a leak back there when I originally bought the donor truck. It didn't affect starting or idling on my mess, but it would make sense as the injection pump would lose some prime

That's what I'm thinking Jon. Was hopping to have time to look into it today but its raining and I can't get it in the shop :(

I still have the leftovers from my 366 install so I should be set for parts.

Jon did yours idle funny then clear up at start up?

Think it would affect the mechanical advance?

um..... if it was leaking when it was running, then yes it would definitely have an affect at advance in the upper rpm.... as the fuel required to push on the piston is just leaking out.

This would probably have my mileage screwed up too then,well.....if it's not achieving full advance.

What I may do it is,just to check it......crank it up,stick 12volts to the ksb solenoid and look for leaks while I hold the throttle about 1500/2k. I should know something then......right?

Now that we know you have a leak and not sand in your vag......
Did you have the timing check plug out? The one between the lines? I ask because I had a leak and thought it was the rear KSB o-ring. Turns out, the timing plug was just loose enough to drip, and running fuel down under the pump, making it look like the o-ring was leaking. I was pissed I pulled and sealed the pump and it still leaked. I wondered why that o-ring looked ok.....

Mine did have some idle issues but i thought it was from 10°F and only 1 grid heater working. Also a cold block. mileage was down slightly until it blew. Lost a 1/4 tank in 12 miles.

I hope this was actually causing issues.... on my truck it wasn't, it just leaked a gallon a minute.
