Head Gasket Leak????

Postby mhuppertz » Sat Aug 04, 2007 3:08 pm

I am attempting to kill my KDP, but when I got stuff off the front of the engine I noticed a major green leak in the area just under the thermostat housing, but it does not look like it came from the housing. I'm not happy.....

Welcome to the 1st gen leak club! Most of these trucks have a seeping issue at the headgasket by the thermostat. I never fixed mine, it does it when it wants to. It hasn't leaked bad enough to be a stream, just a wet spot, leaving a green residue. Alot people have put in a new gasket, some still leak, some quit. I guess it depends on how bad it leaks. Mine has gone thru a cup full in the last year or so.
If it bothers you, change it! It may fix it, it may not.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Thanks for the encouragement Pete. I'm not ready to do the head stud, porting thing (monitarily) so I'm going to leave it alone.
I really appreciate it!

How could a new seal not fix it? Engine blocks wear down there?

Yup! That's it! Except my block is a lot cleaner and my stain is around the side an inch or so.

Begle, I don't have the answer for that. (hard to believe huh? )
I think there is a little warp on the block or head or both. Sometimes a new gasket fixes it, sometimes not. :?
