fuel leak at front of injection pump

Postby kpshc707 » Sun May 15, 2011 12:52 pm

so my 1990 d250 has started a pretty good fuel leak. it looks like its coming out of that weird fitting facing to the front of the engine under the hard line that come from the ksb. looks like i might have to take the pump off  any ideas?

mine leaked and I had to buy a new pump. I removed the old one and installed the new one myself. wow...what a learning experience for a guy who has never done it before. Quite a job.

If its leaking out of that little bitty line that goes into the KSB, its the bolt with the two flat sides. There are four o-rings on it, I just fixed mine. Take a socket that fits on the washer around the odd shaped bolt head, and hit it a couple times to loosen it up, then take a 10mm open end wrench and loosen it up and pull it out (its kinda reluctant about coming out) then use a pick to take the o-rings off, there are three larger o-rings, and one smaller. That should fix that problem, if thats where its leaking

Be careful taking that bolt off, the heads will sometimes snap off, take your socket and hit a a couple times to loosen stuff up

that's where its leaking for sure but it looks impossible to get out without taking the whole pump off :|

nah, take the supply line off, it runs from the filter to the front of the pump, once its off, the bolt is right there on top.....be sure to use a backing wrench so you dont twist the fuel line...I learned the hard way

i dont know of any but heres 2 tips, dont drop the washer and keyway in the timing case cover and dont forget to put the gasket that goes between timing case and pump. both of which i have did

youtube it, there is a video with step by step instructions, I think its actually an old dodge technician training video. It says to use a barring tool to turn the motor over to get it to TDC, but you can use the alternator pulley, if you put it on TDC.

I was thinking you were leaking from the bolt that is right there on top, my bad
