possible dead pump

Postby CAJUN 93 » Fri Aug 24, 2007 9:55 am

a freind of mine just called me and told me his truck (93 d350 spd-dead stock) died while driving down the road. he pulled over and got it stopped. upon inspection, it will crank but not idle and every now and then it will idle for a moment then the rpm will take off. he says its clouding black smoke when its running.

1st thing i thought was a air intake problem. he says the turbo is spinning, no restriction in the intake hose or filter and no blown of boots.

i'm gonna go check it out when i get of work (1:00) but it sound like it may be a dead pump. any ideas?

Never heard of this one, but from the sounds of it with the rpm's taking off and hard to start it may be a broken govenor spring, or fuel pin.

well he put a fuel filter on it before i got there and it cranked and ran. i talked to him yesterday and he say's it's running ok. i didnt see it when it was on the side of the road so i can't verify his complaint. i guess i'll wait and see what happens.

That happened to me. My fuel filter backed off and I lost fuel pressure. Took me forever to figure it out though, I almost got my injection pump rebuilt. New filter, bleed the lines, prime it up and it cranked right up.
