White-grey smoke

Postby papa4runner » Mon Nov 14, 2011 7:49 am

Hi all I am new to the forum, been trolling here for awhile. Just never joined before.

I have a 1992 d250 all pump mods done, as well as grided fuel pin, 4 " turbo back and a set of 90hp injectors.
About a week or so ago it started losing power and the smoke went from black to white-grey.
I have check lift pump, bleed everything checked and recheck everything I can think of.
It has lost power as well as the white-grey smoke.
I don’t really care for the (coal) but I want my power back: lol:
I was thinking timing? I have never adjusted it. If that’s it can someone point to the link on how to set it?

Sorry for grammar and spelling on my phone

Welcome,

do you have an EGT guage? if so is there a possibility you burnt a piston?

it porbably is not timing because you have not touched it. its not likely that the timing has "skipped"

make sure you run through all the silly stuff, check your air filter, fuel filter, oil/water condition (incase you popped the head gasket)

pull your turbo inlet to see if maybe the turbo took a crap

Yes I have all egt and boost and trans temp gauges
Egt staying where they always do boost to.
I was reading on another site that is you turn your (Fuel Power) up that you need to advance timing ?

not as a rule of thumb no, you can, but all the timing is going to do is bump up your power curve a bit. it might get rid of some haze, but you say that this problem is recent, hence it would have hazed right when you turned the pump up/ put bigger sticks in

If this smoke issue is something that has developed recently, NOT due to some changes you have made then it is probably something Effed up

I did grind on fuel pin right before this started, But that should have increased black smoke.
I replaced LP last week just to see if it could be weak, I also ran it with out a AF to see if that help stayed same.
I fliped my fuel pin to stock side took haze out from idea but still there while driving.
Is there a way to check the Injectors to see if I have some bad ones ?

if its running ok then you will have to have them sent out to be checked.

did you replace the LP with a stock style one? did you check the pressure output after that? you could have got a bad pump

when i blew a headgasket the first time it smoked grey quite a bit, but didnt really loose any power, if theres no water in yur oil i guess that rules out one problem, next i would say your injectors also

Could it possibly be an injector, granted theyre fairly new, but one popping to early would cause loss of power and smoking

Sounds like a classic fuel filter... Did you replace it yet?

you may have doubled the gaskets up, but that would leak really bad. and you would have noticed...hopefully

Could be a cracked fuel heater, or the o-ring on top of it
