I jave had to take a pan off to get an engine out but only because the engine was locked up and i had to remove the rod caps to getthe engine to turn to get to the torque converter bolts lol
You have to take the engine out in order to get the pan off a first gen truck well at least a 2wd one i know you do!
On all manual trans first gens you have to remove the trans to get the engine out and if tou dont remove the clutch it is a very tight squeeze i would recomend removing the trans t case clutch flywheel and flywheel housing to give u a little wiggle room domt be a dumb ass like me and get the engine hangin from the picker and the realise you have to take the trans out after the fact it is a lot easyer to remove the trans first lmao good luck but just remember trans has to come out first on a man truck!
