pump gear rotation

Postby ellis93 » Mon Feb 13, 2012 12:01 pm

Looking at the top of the gear, pump and gear on the truck, cover off. Which way does the gear turn to advace the timing?
Want to jump one tooth, that's puts the 1/8 advance in with the marks lined on the case and pump, right?

I don't know for sure, just thinking out loud here. If you push the pump to the head to advance timing, the pump shaft turns counter clock wise. I think then you would jump a tooth CCW to get advanced timing.

I'm sure one of those hot rodders will know ;)

check on BC's cam swap thread on DTR, there is a good shot of the gear advanced that should show you what you are looking for, maybe BC can chime in???

Image

- O to E is stock.
- O to C is 1 tooth advanced.
- O to the right of C is 2 teeth advanced.

- Looking at the gears from the front of the truck, moving the IP gear Clockwise advances the timing.

I'm not sure one tooth equals 1/8" bump, but it's kinda close.
