Anyone Have K&N part number that fit a 90?

I'm wondering if any of you with a non-intercooled truck have a k&n intake, I'm looking at purchasing one and would like to find a replacement hose as well. Also part numbers for the filter you prefer.

I know this isn't the right section, but rather then starting another topic; I keep getting air in my brake lines, and I've been thinking either I have a leak or the master cylinder is shot, but coincidentally I seem to be getting smoke when i hold the brakes, it's black like normal +fuel smoke but very thin, maybe greyish, but not blueish. This only occurs noticeably when the brake is held, if i put it in park and it idles it clears. Could this be from a vacuum leak possibly? Or just the load on the engine from fighting the brake while in drive? (truck rolls forward at idle good bit).

Alright, well what would you reccomend then? With the stock replacement filters at over $40 it seems like I can do better here. Product name I can search? Thanks.

I run Wix 42790/NAPA 2790. Just a rebadged Donaldson Duralite filter. Need to make an adapter to make it fit a 1st gen intake hose. Direct fit for the 2nd trucks I've had. Depending on where you get it, they run $30-60. Depending on conditions, you can them 2 or so years. Can get an Outerwears cover to extend the filter some.

Still a paper filter, but quite a bit bigger.

If its cleaned and oiled twice as often, or just cleaned period they do alright. I've had mine for yrs with no dirt accumulation in the hose or turbos I've had on the truck.

This is what I did on my 92, well worth the extra few bucks. I don't have a mount as of yet, I used a bungee cord to secure the filter to the inner fender for the time being

I agree with the theory on a big and dry filter. I'm not disiplined or intelligent enough to regularly clean a K&N. I used the stock filter and base with 2 45* silicone couplers and some 4" exhaust for an intake tube. My stock filter (they may be different on the later trucks?) is ~12" tall and ~9" in diameter. I got a Fleetguard replacement and it was about $20

I was gonna go with another stocker, but I figgur'd I would try something different since I had a few extra bucks at the time.

I just replaced my dry filter with a k&n for the sheer size

FWIW, I run an AFE and it looks like it's the same material as a K & N. The oil seems to be the same too. I haven't heard negative comments about AFE filters though.

Once upon a time I had the K & N drop in filter and sold it after reading the negative comments.

Don't run a K&N dirt injection filter. I have an extra stock new Fleetguard filter I can ship if you want to buy it. I will write you.

From what i got out of researching it... A normal 4-6 layer K&N flow a lot of air for it's size, yet it will let more dirt by... it's a trade off. This amount of dirt they let by is something i wouldn't want if i was taking my turbo engine out in the field every day but some people do and with proper maintenance have good luck. They supposedly make filters with more layers but i dont know how to distinguish them from a normal K&N.

Another thing i read was they recommend oversizing your filter to keep a turbo from sucking the oil though. It makes sense, just to keep vacuum down across the filter.

Also, they are finicky about being cleaned. You can't just hose it out every XX,XXX miles and soak it in oil then rip down the road. You need to clean them regularly, use the proper amount of oil, and let that oil soak throughout the filter for a day before you drive your truck. Many people keep a stock filter to use for the day your K&N is drying.

Im pretty picky about stuff like this and i was swayed by some of the "big guys" in diesel who run them with good luck with proper maintenance in performance application.
